Slaughter Brannin

Slaughter Brannin, was born in Scott Co. KY about 1813 to Richard and Margaret Threlkeld Brannin. In 1823 the family moved to Howard Co., Missouri. He did not
believe in slavery, so he moved his family to Wisconsin where he worked as a miner. After the death of his wife, Elizabeth Elnora Johnston, in 1852, he moved back to Missouri. He left the children with family and went west to Pike's Peak. Elnora stayed with William and Summerville Brannin Gibson. Althius, Stanton, Adolphus and Ezelda stayed with Uncle Jimmy Brannin. He came back for his family, but never made it to Colorado again, for he got sick and died. The family continued to live with relatives. They received an education. Aunt Al (Althius) became a school teacher. Aunt El (Elnora) was a seamstress.  She married Colonel George Keeler at the stage station near Helena, Montana.
