Truman Alonzo Spencer
May 19, 1845 - June 26, 1929
Born on a farm in Niagara County, New York, May 19, 1845, Truman Alonzo Spencer was the son of Mary Ann and Truman Spencer. When still a small boy he moved with his parents to Eaton County, Michigan. Here he grew to young manhood, when he entered the service of his country September 3, 1864. For nine months he fought bravely for his country giving his all that he might help her win in the great struggle for humanity. He was honorably discharged June 8, 1865. To his children and many friends he has always shown a bright cheerful countenance proving him to be one of the greatest soldiers in the steady march of life.
Having lost his wife many years ago, he has been both father and mother to his children, raising them to manhood and womanhood and keeping them together in the little home which will be very lonely now.
The funeral services were held in the Church of Christ at Sumner, burial taking place at the Crystal cemetery. Saturday, June 29. Knowing that he was ready and feeling secure in the belief that we shall meet again, it is not hard to give him back to the One who alone has the power to give and take away.
