Sidney Arthur Brannin

   Sidney Arthur Brannin was the Grand Marshall for the Big Timber Rodeo in 1981.  He had attended all the rodeos here since 1942.  He rode rodeos for several years in Montana and other areas, and helped put on the first Big Timber rodeo in 1925.

   Sid rode and contested against many of the top names of the day - cowboys who are still legends in our time: Howard Thezland, Jesse and Jack Coats, Paddy Ryan, Bob Askins, Casey Tibbs and Arty Orser.

   Bronc riding and calf roping were Sid's events.  He also worked as a sheep shearer, government trapper, horse shoer and was a plumber by trade for many years.

   Sid Brannin was born March 20, 1897 at Empire, Montana, the son of Stanton and Guadelupe Brannin.  He died Sept. 10, 1984.

   On February 13, 1937 he married Lois Fisk in Juneau, Alaska.  He lived in the Mt. Pleasant, Washington area for 36 years and was  a member of the Mt. Pleasant Grange, Mt. Pleasant Assoc., Clallam County Sheriff's Possee, former Governor of the Moose, Assistant Director of the Moose Teen Club, and Olympic Saddle Club.  He was also a World War I veteran.

   Survivors include four daughters: Sydney Dodge of Anchorage, Alaska, Margaret Hickman also of Anchorage, Judy Wagoner, Alger, Washington, and Bonnie Kirkendall, Renton, Washington; a son, Allen Scott Brannin, Port Angeles; 15 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and one sister, Anita Ward Hoyem of Big Timber.

   He was preceded in death by his first wife, Iva Melton, in 1933, and also by a daughter Harriet, who died in infancy.

   After cremation, memorial services were held at the Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel on Sept. 14.  Interment followed at the Mt. Angeles Cemetery.
