George Cody, 517 N. Central in Kent, died Thursday at Auburn General Hospital after a long illness. The 83 year-old veteran of World War I had lived in the Kent area for 44 years.
He was born in Sault St. Marie, Michigan, but settled here after the war. He had been a bartender at the Passtime Tavern and a member of Kent's American legion Post 15.
Survivors include sisters Beatrice York of Kirkland, Marguerite Knapp of Georgia; stepson Earl McKenney of Seattle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were Monday at Hillcrest Burial Park, under the direction of Edline-Yahn Funeral Home. The family suggest remembrances be sent to American Cancer Society or the Hear Association.

George T. Cody
George Treuman Cody was born July 4, 1893 at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and was baptized at the Holy Name of Mary Church on November 21 of the same year. When he was about 8 years old he moved with his family to *Brute, Montana where he lived until they took a homestead in an Eastern part of the state in 1914.
In April of 1918, George enlisted in the army and served with distinction for a year. During that time he was involved in some of the major battles of World War I. following the war her returned to the family homestead in Montana, where he stayed until 1931. Then it was that they moved to the Idaho panhandle.
It was during the depressing, work was scarce in Idaho and as a family poem puts it, "Belly's was shy of fills", so they left in 1933 for Washington. George settled here in the Kent Valley and has lived here until his death on September 23, 1976. In the mid-forties George married his wife, Sophie, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Beatrice York of Kirkland; Mrs. Marguerite Knapp of McDonaugh, Georgia; a step-son, Earl McKenney of Seattle, and many nieces and nephews.
