Former Resident Dies in Detroit
Mrs. Aldridge passes away suddenly at home of daughter, Mrs. Ware.
Mrs. Emma Eliza Shay Aldridge, 66, well known in this community where she made her home
for many years, died suddenly Tuesday morning at home of her daughter, Mrs. William Ware in
Detroit. Mrs. Aldridge had resided at the Ware home since she left Brown City eight years ago.
Death followed a stroke suffered Monday. She never regained consciousness after the attack.
Mrs. Aldridge was born near Salem in Washtenaw County in 1861 and passed away at the age
of 66 years 8 months and 29 days.
When a child she moved with her parents to Reed City, where in 1880 she married Mr.
Aldridge. They moved to Brown City and lived on the old William McRae Farm three miles south
of town for 25 years. She had lived in the community 32 years.
Mr. Aldridge passed away nine years ago and a year later the widow went to Detroit.
The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Idris Wright, and Mrs. Blanche Ware of
Detroit, and one son Wilbert of Detroit; one brother Will Shay of Reed City, and one grandchild
Virginia Ware, besides other relatives and friends.
The body was brought from Detroit Wednesday and was placed in the Buck Funeral Parlors.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Thursday) at 2:00 from the Brown City Methodist
Church. Rev. G. W. Gilroy officiating. Burial will be in the Brown City Cemetery.
