Letter to Lydia McNeil
to inform her of her husband's death;
Cyrenius McNeil died April 15, 1865
while serving with the Ohio Volunteer Infantry
Civil War
Whitsburg Ala April 18th 1865
Mrs. Lydia McNeil,
I am sorry to inform you of the death of your husband. He died of Typhoid Fever in Hospital at Huntsville, Ala, April 15th, 1865. He was insane when he left the company to go to the Hospital I was afraid that he would loose his pocket book so I kept it in my possession for him. He had $1.83 in money in his pocket book. I enclose you $2.00.
He had a silver watch with him when he went to the Hospital. I do not know whether the watch belonged to him or not. One of the boys told me that he thought that he had borrowed it of another man by the name of Donovan who is also in Hospital at Huntsville. I will find out as soon as possible whether the watch does belong to him and if so I will send it to you so soon as you write and let me know where to express it to as I cannot send it by mail. I will also send pocket book at same time if you say so, although I think that you had better let me sell it and send you the money.
Let me hear from you soon.
