Mrs. Jennie Aiken, 79, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 10, at 7:45 o’clock, in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. And Mrs. E. J. Wagenecht of 311 West Main street, following an illness of several months. The remains repose at the Reynolds funeral home.
Jennie Shipma was born in the Netherlands March 30, 1874, the daughter of Louise and Anna Wolff Shipma. She received her education there and came to the United States when a young lady of 17 years of age. Since then she had always resided in this vicinity with the exception of eight years in North Dakota. She was a resident of Morrison for many years.
She married Nov. 16, 1892 in Fulton, to Abel Aiken, who preceded her in death Jan. 29, 1940. She was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed church.
She is survived by three sons and four daughters and in her immediate family are also 21 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. The sons are Louis Aiken of Detroit, Mich., Clarence Aiken of Morrison and Richard Aiken of this city. The daughters are Mrs. Fred (Kate) Smith of Clinton, Iowa, Mrs. Howard (Annie) Daniels of Morrison, Mrs. Eugene (Irene) Wagenecht of Morrison and Mrs. Raymond (Eva) Prestley of Albany. Three of her grandsons are now serving in the armed forces.
She is also survived by one brother, Henry Shipma of this city; two sisters, Mrs. Ed Bos of Fulton and Mrs. Jake Dykhuizen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Beside her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Egbert; one daughter, Mrs. Henry (Florence) Dykema, one grandson and one great grandchild; two brothers, Ren and Harry Shipma; one sister, Mrs. Claus (Helen) Geerts; two half sisters, Mrs. Joe (Effie) VanDyke and Mrs. Dewey (Gertrude) Dykstra; and one half-brother, John Shipma.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock in Reynolds funeral home and at 2 o’clock in the Ebenezer Reformed church, with the Rev. Harry L. Brower officiating. Interment will be in Grove Hill cemetery.
