For Making Buckskin
to B. B. Knapp
from Buster Knapp
Soak hide in very warm water mixed slushy with ashes. For three days. And if the hair don’t slip 4 days. Take the hair off and flesh well. And old ice skate blade or something similar makes a good tool for this. Then soak in warm soap water. If its pretty strong 3 days then wash out good, thru three waters, use soft water, work and rub it dry. And it makes real good buckskin. You can oil it a little you prefer it that way but it don’t need it.
Hope you have good luck with this I have saw some fine buckskin made this way. Suppose you are getting ready to plant you garden by now mabey better plant an extry hill or two. I guess it wont be long untill we pull back home guess we will be able to buy 10 or 15 bushel of seed again if nothing happens. Paid 60 bucks worth of debts this winter and our taxes. And the cows are costing us $125.00 so our wages went rather fast it would have been tough sleding if we hadn’t of had any but will have plenty of milk and gave land guy $10.00 to winter 30 chickens for us, so will live till fall again. And if it don’t rain cant think any farther than that well I am shoeing a hoss took time out to write this rocete. Write some time Love to all the family
